Probably worth pointing out that Ireland is under the thumb of a gay Indian with an obvious disdain for his adopted land, and that this regime is growing threatened as the natives are starting to get restless in the face of relentless replacement migration. The usual excuses, that the locals deserve it because of slavery or empire or whatever, are not terribly convincing to the Irish, and local propaganda has therefore relied on a mixture of suggestions that Ireland needs these diverse migrants to be economically viable, and that as a historically oppressed people themselves they must show solidarity with the wretched of the Earth by giving the latter their country. The first excuse can be met with a lol, while the second is not so convincing when your daughters are being raped. The result has been a rise in spirited protests against the importation of diverse newcomers, with eg buses being blocked, vans being firebombed, and so on. No doubt the emerald isle's branch managers are concerned that a nationalist movement might start taking a page from the IRA and escalate their objections to replacement to more robust actions than mere complaint. This hamfisted hate speech law is probably an indication of their anxiety.

We may be approaching a point where it is better to not have a cell phone or a computer at all. And then I suppose the Experts would make their use mandatory?

The Freedom of Speech is essential, because once people give away power to have someone else observed, muted, or even prosecuted, the same power will be used against them sooner or later:

The unfortunate part for experts is there are far fewer of them than there are laymen. And the Irish have demonstrated a willingness to fight against tyranny, so once the gubmint starts putting Aunt Siobhan or Uncle Seamus in jail, things might get spicy.

Sorta surprised you didn't mention an egregious American example of criminalizing "hate speech." Especially since it involves a candidate for president.

I'll bet that the Irish lawmakers did not crawl to another country to grovel before that hostile foreign power to present their "hate speech" bill, and actually sign the bill into law before the foreign power's rulers and media. Because that's what the craven DeSantis did with his "hate speech" bill/law.

Here's the relevant sections of the law:

"(7) A public K-20 educational institution must treat discrimination by students or employees or resulting from institutional policies motivated by anti-Semitic intent in an identical manner to discrimination motivated by race. For purposes of this section, the term “anti-Semitism” includes a certain perception of the Jewish people, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jewish people, rhetorical and physical manifestations of anti-Semitism directed toward a person, his or her property, or toward Jewish community institutions or religious facilities.

(a) Examples of anti-Semitism include:

1. Calling for, aiding, or justifying the killing or harming of Jews, often in the name of a radical ideology or an extremist view of religion.

2. Making mendacious, dehumanizing, demonizing, or stereotypical allegations about Jews as such or the power of Jews as a collective, especially, but not exclusively, the myth about a world Jewish conspiracy or of Jews controlling the media, economy, government or other societal institutions.

3. Accusing Jews as a people of being responsible for real or imagined wrongdoing committed by a single Jewish person or group, the State of Israel, or even for acts committed by non-Jews.

4. Accusing Jews as a people or the State of Israel of inventing or exaggerating the Holocaust.

5. Accusing Jewish citizens of being more loyal to Israel, or the alleged priorities of Jews worldwide, than to the interest of their own nations.

(b) Examples of anti-Semitism related to Israel include:

1. Demonizing Israel by using the symbols and images associated with classic anti-Semitism to characterize Israel or Israelis, drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis, or blaming Israel for all inter-religious or political tensions.

2. Applying a double standard to Israel by requiring behavior of Israel that is not expected or demanded of any other democratic nation or focusing peace or human rights investigations only on Israel.

3. Delegitimizing Israel by denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination and denying Israel the right to exist."

We are all going to hell on a wooden sled soaked in gasoline.

They want and hope for a violent reaction. This will provide them with two levers. The first is justification for the crackdown they can then embark upon. The second is that they can point to their "Hate Speech" law and say "See what we told you? This violence is why we had to have a Hate Speech Law".
