"I also have no clear idea how to proscribe Equality."
We used to have quite efficient events and attitudes that recognized, and celebrated, inequality--competitions of every kind:
Beauty contests
Spelling bees
Foot races
Sports games
Valedictorians
Scholarships
National Merit Scholars
etc.
The winners were celebrated as THE BEST at something. The ultimate inequality.
While most of these still exist, the cultural attitude celebrating THE BEST has eroded, in many of them. In addition, many events that result in identifying some person as THE BEST have been watered down, or disappeared.
A first step toward "proscribing Equality" is to reinstate and celebrate contests that identify THE BEST--at anything.
All remaining hereditary peers will be removed from the House of Lords next summer, ministers announced as they said the “accident of birth” should not give people the right to make laws
Should hereditary peers be removed from the House of Lords?
Then also the accident of birth would seem good reason not to pay out compensation to black Americans because of their being descendants of slaves (so it's been claimed) has held them back from "a seat at the table". Even if they are doctors, lawyers, mayors, governors etc. And I guess even if they have arrest records a yard long. Equality is almost as confusing as democracy!
First, it is necessary to understand the underlying foundation of Equality: Envy
From The socialist, what he is and why: “the [socialist] ‘movement’ as a social and political force is, in this country, born of envy, the true purpose of its activities, revenge. In the shadow of our national prosperity it whets its knife for the throats of the prosperous. It unleashes the hounds of hate upon the track of success.”
"My idea is that some great chastisement is needed to shock people back to their senses."
Ah, you see, that's where you're going wrong - assuming that people who never developed beyond a toddler's plaintive playground cry of "It's not fair!" have any senses to be shocked back to.
Proscribe equality? You may as well proscribe avarice. You can't. Man is a rational creature and he is always calculating the ratio between what he has and what everyone else has.
You can try to build in him habits of virtue, starting with how he lives and moves within his family, and hope that it extends to treating others as well as he treats his family. I'm partial to the Christian model, but that has broken down, been broken down on purpose by those who would enlighten us.
Back in the days of Occupy Wall Street, I saw an interviewer ask a young man, who had stopped by the protests and was studying his phone, "so you want to redistribute the wealth?" and he said "yes, abolish private property", and the interviewer asked "private property, like your phone?" and he said "no, that's personal property".
Assuming by 'equality' we mean equality of outcome (or now called equity) as Jordan Peterson points out, there is a paradox, it works at small scale (in the home, the family) but not at larger scales. Its a natural law (Pareto etc) that inequality of outcome happens. I support equality of opportunity, equality before the law, but beyond that, let nature takes its course.
The persistent determination to build paradise on the killing fields of claimed good intentions is a common feature of all political delusions, especially the idea of using power to produce positive good rather than to reduce as much negative evil as possible.
See, for example, how God Himself tells us that the King is a terror to evil, and he wears a sword for a reason, but it isn't to make people better or to produce utopia, but only to remove the worst features of our fallen nature from bedevilling our fellows. (Romans 13:3)
Once people cross that philosophical line, all hope of reasoning with them is lost. Their own determination to do good obliges them to pursue ever more power and to use it ruthlessly to destroy all who oppose their manichean visions.
We are living during that “chastisement”, there is no other way to explain how upside down our cultures have turned. Oh, it’s going to get a lot worse, but we’re definitely on that turnpike and exits are becoming few. I’m Catholic, and when my church embraced the “world” in the 60’s you can connect the dots of errors to the present time. Protestant churches beat us by some decades. When the people devinely tasked to educate on faith and morals have wondered from the right road, that leads to some bad consequences. The “king” is lost.
I personally believe the “great chastisement” is upon us. We will soon see whether We the People have the courage to combat the evil coming our way and brought about by those pushing “equality”.
And that's the goal of all this "equality" agitprop: brainwash people into not prizing anything, up to and including life itself. A population that doesn't value anything is that much easier to parasitize.
It’s simple really, we live in a culture that is anti God and only focuses on the current world. When that happens the opportunists who want power will leverage grievances to get power. That’s all this equality stuff is. The answer isn’t “meritocracy” or “equality of opportunity” because those aren’t possible either. The answer is the parable of the talents

Everybody gets a trophy 🏆

Outstanding!

Equality is the fruit produced from the tree of Envy.

It’s not equality. It’s equity which is communism

Chastisement only works if one feels shame. And the death of shame happened at least a decade ago. So many examples
Viva Inequality!
This graphic I shared this morning addresses the real equality issue when it comes to American children. Wonder what causes this?
