Maybe this week has slapped awake millions of people who previously subscribed to the "Digital Twins" predicting global warming. Probably not, though, since The Science rebranded that stinker as "Climate Change", thereby incongruently waving in blizzards into the big tent of global warming.
My understanding is Windows 11 and Apple ios are capturing everything we are doing on our computers/iphones. Secondly, there are already datacenters set up to create our DT based on our behavioral models. Seemingly, this would be a very powerful tool for manipulating our behavior and accelerate our being moved down the Overton window (Unthinkable to Policy/law).
Your thoughts on the matter generally and is this unnecessary paranoia in lieu of what I have concluded was a crime against humanity with the EUA novel m-rna-lnp gene therapy?
Thank you for your invaluable and sobering insights on all things AI related.
That's why you need occasional searches for chainsaws, high heels, bacon and 17th century poetry. I am amazed someone hasn't yet created some kind of obfuscator plugin to really fuck up their data gathering on us. Inundating them with bad data seems a reasonably difficult thing for them to counter.
Yesterday, I went to a conservative website to sign a petition to remove rainbow flags from the public schools and was blocked by a “plugin” called “Wordfence”. Seemingly, your idea of an “obfuscator plugin” has merit. We could call the plugin “AD” for “Artificial Data”. I’m hoping Bill has time to respond to my earlier question and now yours😜
I think it has merit. Create profiles so meaningless they abandon them. You want to build a picture of yourself as a pregnant senior transgender woman between three and seven feet in height, with a passion for Imperial Chinese history, lego and fetish gear. What can they do with all that?
I just asked AI whether it would be legal to create and obfuscating plugin to thwart windows 11 and apple ios data collection. It turns out that it would be illegal based on "platform and security terms and state and federal laws."
Furthermore, I based my concerns on two alleged facts. 1) A gentlemen interviewed by Lara Logan stated directly that there were datacenters building digital twins of us. He seemed legitimate at the time.
2) I saw a podcast on Youtube where a gentlemen stated directly that now Windows 11 and the latest Apple IOS are collecting data on your computer use at the operating system level ("web sites, emails, writings, voice, video's etc") and was advocating a return to linux os for privacy.
I put my faith in the veracity of both gentlemen's assertions without additional verification. My bad.
When I used Brave AI to verify what specifically the operating systems are collecting it turns out it is (legitimate diagnostic data, "No content files", and it anonymizes the data collected so it is not tied to you personally but is aggregated)
In conclusion, my concocted three legged stool ( digital twin datacenters, new more invasive data collection in real time and at the operating system level, and moving us all the down the behavior modification of the Overton Window) turns out to be paranoia because noone has verified the digital twinning going on in datacenters, the latest operating systems are NOT collecting what I was led to believe, therefore the ability to move us all down the Overton Window with great manipulative ability is NOT based on existing capabilities.
Or harness the power. I had google AI tell me a magnetic moment was a measure of the torque a particle will experience in a magnetic field the other day. So far as I know that line only ever appeared in a google doc draft of a paper I've been writing and rewriting for the last year.
We also used to call a model of a physical process a “simulation”, and sometimes a “numerical simulation” when we wanted to emphasize the impressive number of digits of precision.
I think simulation is the word to retain, not models. Simulation reminds us of the artificial nature of the thing, whereas the word model can imply an accuracy or precision that is absent.
How far away can Digital Triplets be? Models of models of models! Will it ever end? Who knows? Can we sell that shit? Yes? Then make another one! What, the output is degrading? Then sell IT help to “repair” the problem! See, it’s cash all the way down!
"Digital Twin" isn't bad, but it lacks alliteration. A couple of single malts produced the Cyber Clone Cloud Cluster. The logo - 4C. And can be verbally referred to as Quad-C during the TED Talks.
I'm all for rebranding. Think of the fortunes made by Wall Street for simply calling "money printing" by the technical-sounding "Quantitative Easing". Gangsters were able to print money, but you needed an MBA from Harvard to grasp the nuances of QE.
Cool...my digital twin can pay all my taxes, pay all my bills, get ill and diseased so I won't be, and sneak into congress to get the latest "insider" investment info.
I long ago corrected the acronym AI to its true meaning Artificial Ignorance. I guess the only thing we can do for "Digital Twins" is to remind ourselves that its acronym DTs really stands for Delirium Tremens.
Perhaps part of the problem with a medical "digital twin" is that LLMs can't "understand" how to predict the next token for a trans individual because there is currently no training set "large" enough to mimic how a human understands the phenomenon of a biological male presenting and complaining about menstrual discomforts -- humans by free will suspend disbelief -- without strenuously applied guardrails? A lot of work.
You can't tell an LLM to just hallucinate that he is a she.
Well, renaming "models" as "digital twins" may harmlessly allow business units to represent to investors, who have the power to punish non-compliance, that the business unit is indeed going all-in on enterprise AI, and so evade punishment.
You can always join sexually confused Martine Rothblatt's new religion of Terasem. They have nifty projects to upload your 'mindfile' through an organization called Lifenaut. Reconstruction they hope will be possible with future tech through what they call 'spacecrafting.' It's insane but look at all the 'trans' people who are being diagnosed with bogus identity issues. There is a reason for that but it is not what most people think.

Lol. Don't let their rules bind you!

i.e. precisely quantifying the unquantifiable! :)

From those commercial descriptions I would call it a "simulation". But I guess that's not anthropomorphic enough for the marketing department.
Too on the nose. Simulation retains the notion of artificiality, the very thing they fear us discussing.
They want us to treat AI like pets or besties or peers, so that we're less likely to be skeptical of them.
Yes. And to share information we might otherwise hold back.
Cool...my digital twin can pay all my taxes, pay all my bills, get ill and diseased so I won't be, and sneak into congress to get the latest "insider" investment info.
"Doesn’t scream premium price." Exactly right. Give something a fancy name and you can up the game.
I dunno. "Digital Twin" sounds more like a toy.

And here I thought they were honoring the President.
Almost: though I hear some Domestic Terrorist types substitute "t" for "n". ;)
Digital Twits?
Correct. But when the DTs come for me, it was you who said it, not me :)
Uh-oh. Did I use the DTt word?
Of course not: you are much misunderstood!
This was the rage in engineering a decade ago.

It's sad that I can't tell if this is satirical or real. Poe's Law is a bitch.
😬
Oh and apparently NASA invented digital twins with a "digital"l Apollo 13 model of various systems on earth.
"Model" is passe.

This term has been around awhile, it's just a new name for simulations :(
I think I saw Grim Gusto opening for the Digital Twins at SXSW in '89. The Cyber Voodoo Dolls were better.
