Paid Subscriptions Turned On - But All Posts Will Remain Free
Readers now have a way to support my efforts
I’ve turned on the option for paid posts.
I’ll use this—at least for the foreseeable future—as a means of allowing readers to support my work.
But I do not have any plans to produce content for subscribers only.
The reason is that I want everything to be freely available. I know for many money is tight, and growing tighter, and I wouldn’t like to charge those who can’t afford it.
I use this same model at my main page: wmbriggs.com. Over there, I have something over 9,000 subscribers. Those who can, donate. Those who cannot can still access all the material. I mirror the posts I make there over here for folks who would rather read on the Substack platform.
The option for paid posts, like at my main page, is purely for those who can help.
For those new, I’m a wholly independent writer, scientist, and philosopher of uncertainty.
Thanks, everybody!
Here’s a short bio:
I am a wholly independent writer, statistician, scientist and consultant. Previously a Professor at the Cornell Medical School, a Statistician at DoubleClick in its infancy, a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service, and an Electronic Cryptologist with the US Air Force (the only title I ever cared for was Staff Sergeant Briggs).
My PhD is in Mathematical Statistics: I am now an Uncertainty Philosopher, Epistemologist, Probability Puzzler, and Unmasker of Over-Certainty. My MS is in Atmospheric Physics, and Bachelors is in Meteorology & Math.
Author of Uncertainty: The Soul of Modeling, Probability & Statistics, a book which calls for a complete and fundamental change in the philosophy and practice of probability & statistics; author of two other books and dozens of works in fields of statistics, medicine, philosophy, meteorology and climatology, solar physics, and energy use appearing in both professional and popular outlets. Full CV (pdf updated rarely).
Now I have 4 favorite sergeants: ill-tempered Sergeant Carter of Private Pyle fame, authoritative Sergeant Preston of the Yukon ("Well, King this case is closed."), con man Sergeant Bilko and polymath Sergeant Briggs. Briggs has most impressive degrees but lacks a large dog that catches crooks.
You forgot to mention you love Jesus and thus truth. That’s why I love you!
