The US publishing industry is a matriarchy. I get daily news of new books from Amazon, Thriftbooks, and Simon & Schuster. The Amazon recommended lists read like the reading list for Women’s Studies 101. Roughly 3/4 are by or for women. Even in formerly male fields like science fiction.

I'll bet their staffs are 80% women, 15% gay men, and 5% straight guys. Like Hollywood and gaming, these employees pursue higher goals than profits for their employers. The Revolution must advance!

It isn't just you. While Sci-Fi isn't my preferred genre, I have a slew of authors (mostly British) ranging from the mid 1800s to perhaps the late 1990s that I continue to reread. I have a great delight in discovering that an old film was based upon a book and then finding the book and experiencing not only the director's interpretation but the author's vision.
