I think it really comes down to: IQ is a nice abbreviation for intelligence. Typing, apparently, is difficult. That and internet autists like quantified things, and like to brag when their quantified thing is quantified higher than someone else's. Number go up. Get the top score.

It seems obvious to me that there is no 'g'. There are many examples of people who excel at one particular thing we attribute to intelligence and are average or worse at others. There are kinds of genius that we don't even attempt to measure with IQ tests, like kinesthetics.

It's likely that they're found together more often than not because, to the extent these traits are heritable (or even socially cultivated), being pretty good at a bunch of different mental tasks is better than being an idiot-savant.

I don't know why this is hard to understand. Possibly because bragging about high IQ is a great cope for unlikable people with no demonstrable skill or achievements.

The funny thing about IQ in my experience is that people who scored high on the tests talk about and other people rarely ever even think about it. Maybe it's an "ignorance is bliss" thing but the people I've met who obsess about their IQ score are seldom happy people to be around.
