"Tennessee, we found that hospitals were getting $166,000 for every COVID admission. West Virginia, which was getting almost $500,000 for every COVID admission.... That was just the per-COVID admission money that hospitals were getting. If you put them on a ventilator, you’d get another bonus. Not to mention remdesivir. You got a massive bonus if you were willing to put them on remdesivir. They give somebody a test, declare it positive, put them in a bed, and collect half a million dollars. My hypothesis is that people who perform any task that makes them large sums of money or prestige without risk to themselves are likely to keep doing it.
