You are 100% spot on. New Age and Occult stuff is gaining in popularity, especially among younger generations who don’t know any history.
Another interesting thing— seemingly innocuous things like the Enneagram personality system can be traced back to the 1970s. I’ve been doing research on the origins of the Enneagram, as it’s gained popularity among millennial Christians in a “Christian version” of it, but the people promoting the “Christian” version believe that real psychology was added to it at some point. Nope. Initially, the Enneagram symbol came from an Occultist named Gurdijeff who believed the symbol explained all of the universe. Then a Chilean named Oscar Ichazo added vices to it and the first vestiges of “personality” to the numbers and in the early 70s held “retreats” of the stereotypical 1970s kind. The likes of John C Lilly were there, doing lots of psychedelic drugs, sex, and trying to “seek truth.” Claudio Naranjo, who was a psychiatrist— but his research was not on personality, but on… guess what? Psychedelic drugs for 500 Mr. Trebek! Naranjo went on a 40-day “Jesus” experience alone in the desert, took a bunch of psychedelic drugs, channeled spirits through automatic writing, then presto— comes out of the desert with the Enneagram of Personality as we mostly know it today.
Naranjo apparently got himself a little cult following where they thought he was the second coming of Jesus for a time.
There is a reason est and other hippy New Age retreat centers adopted the Enneagram so quickly- it’s one of their inventions.
And yet… Christians today are falling for it as supposedly “good psychology” because I guess it’s the 1970s again and we don’t trust science anymore. 🤷♀️
AAP is a gang of vaccine terrorists like the ACIP. I don't believe in UFOs or the Disco Duck. My fav disco song is "Ma Baker" by Boney M. I did see the Globies many moons ago. There were more anti-war songs on the pop charts in the 1970's then you'd think possible. After 50 years or so, they didn't make a bit of difference.
I think I had a bean bag at one time but never vibed on it. I might still have my fondue thingy around somewhere. And "Jaws" scared the life outta me on the big screen. But the real terror was Michael C who inherited the Godfather role from big daddy Vito.
Mom told us back when we were teenagers that the Hari Krishnas were a lot of Catholic and Jewish kids rebelling against the family religion but secretly desiring the structure.
On the bright side, the 1970s birthed the 1980s. Androgyny nd drab colors gave way to action heroes, supermodels and neon colors. The ensuing positive mood cycle will be so bright, the masculine and feminine energy will burn your eyes out.
They always roll out superficial "me" culture (i.e., disco music, tacky clothing, rebellious "new age" religions, meditation, obnoxious colors, "alternative sexualities", etc.) after they confiscate wealth via high inflation. It's intended to distract you from your financial ruin. If you're focused on you, you won't notice who's stealing from you, or the decay around you.
It is good to remember that there never was a "before time" per se, when people played things straight with each other. Before the 70s? No. People in every age try to take advantage of other people, especially of the young. Just not all people all the time. Thank God.
What is frightening to me about our current time is the acceleration of taking advantage, made possible using the levers of so-called artificial intelligence.
I watched an episode of the new Tim Allen show (so you don't have to) "Shifting Gears" and all the women in the show were wearing bell bottom jeans. Here we go again, out with the yoga pants and in with the bell-bottoms for the third or fourth time.
We have been in the 70s for a while. Instead of cults programming lonely college students we have the fagcists programming kindergarteners that they can be any gender, and Critical Pedagogy to block any right leaning thoughts from our youth. And what is modern AntiRacism but warmed over Charles Manson strategy?
At least the mind benders of the 70s kind of knew what they were doing. Timothy Leary was very big on the idea of imprinting. Well, our public school sex miseducation classes are striving hard to imprint deviant sex during critical developmental windows -- while calling it "finding out what you are." Sometimes I think our public educators should be required to read Leary and Robert Anton Wilson -- as well as watch "Porky's." All naughty, but maybe they will heed naughty where they shun anything remotely Christian.
As for UFOs and other woo woo, we have a shockingly high number of people who believe the Earth is flat.
Things traveled slowly enough, even in the late 20th c, that those wacky pop-psychology movements didn’t make their way into my small town until the 1980s. It was funny during the Reagan era to hear other kids’ parents just getting around to words such as “ashram” and “biorhythm”.
Edit: Yes there are once again zodiac-based lip gloss and nail polish collections.
I’m five paragraphs in and I remember being a kid when that stuff was everywhere.

“New Age”???
The 1990s called, they want their crystals and aromatherapy back.
Haha right!
Trump has popularized orange, which was the 70s background color.
Is he Agent Orange or just an orange gent? :)
Well, what more needs to be said? Touché!
It might be a good return for music.

I’ve been on to nutty ideas ever since.
Moderation, kiddos! Be careful out there!

Crazy good, crazy bad, crazy neutral - and we are now squirming and clawing our way out of crazy very bad.
